Communications key to Employee Engagement
Posted on February 25, 2011 by Gerald FlynnIn a panel discussion at the 2011 Health Summit at Croke Park, Dublin, Gerald Flynn cautions health managers that they would find it very difficult to achieve significant reforms and savings.
He said that there was little evidence in recent months of health sector managers engaging in effective internal communications in HSE and other health-sector workplaces.
Open and honest communication of necessary changes and reforms have to be presented directly to employees.
“The use of ‘partnership’ groups and industrial relations machinery to secure employee engagement and support is no longer viable. Effective involvement and consultations should take place in the workplace, initiated by local managers, and not be side-lined to national partnership bodies”, he advised.
